Teaching Practice
Members of the Ontario College of Teachers apply professional knowledge and understanding of the student, curriculum, teaching, and the changing context of the learning environment to promote student learning. They conduct ongoing assessment and evaluation of student progress. They modify and refine teaching practice through continuous reflection.

Rationale

This standard covers a wide range of topics, some of which I have already addressed in other areas of this portfolio. Therefore, I have chosen to focus on the sub topic Assessment and Evaluation of Students.

My knowledge is well represented in the chart I created which lists types of activities suited to each category in the Language Achievement Chart. This resource and the others included here, will allow me to “gather data on students using a variety of assessment strategies”, and “provide ongoing feedback of achievement to students and parents”. I strongly believe in the importance of self reflection to successful teaching practice. Using a variety of tasks will make it easier for me to “determine if the needs of students are being met”, and change strategies if necessary.
